MATILDA HAMMOND – WOMEN’S COMMISSIONER


Matilda Hammond is a philanthropist, Women’s leader, resilient and an astute entrepreneur.

She started her charity work while in 3rd year in the University. She’s the founder for Tilly&friends Foundation established in 2019. She has the passion to support and advocate for women and children (both boy & girl child) who are less privileged in the society for a better life. 

She and her team visit and donate to orphanages at least every quarter or at most twice in a year. 

She served as campus ambassador forUniversal Merchant Bank Ghana Tertiary Awards 2020 and was responsible for serving as a link between CrossMark Marketing and the student’s leadership of GIMPA, promote the dissemination of information to her campus, and attend all meetings to discuss matters relating to Universal Merchant Bank Ghana Tertiary Awards 2020.

In 2019, Matilda as a level 200 student donated assorted drugs and other items to the GIMPA Clinic.

She also gave a water dispenser, Sony DVD player and three dustbins.

she was motivated to make the donation as her contribution to the clinic’s effective delivery of health and sanitation services to students and other members of the school community.

Matilda was nominated for Best Women’s Commissioner in the National Students Awards 2020.

Matilda was honoured to speak  at the Young African Women Congress 2019. (https://yawcafrica.org)

As the Women’s Commissioner of the GIMPA SRC, Matilda Hammond Spoke on the topic Higher Education for the girl child and how girls can realize their career path through higher education.

In her speech, she affirmed that Scholarships should be awarded to these brilliant girls who pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs to encourage more girls to pursue it devoid of the perception that it’s a male field of study.

She added that girls need role models who they can look up to in the society to positively influence these girls in life as they pursue their career path

Matilda was the lead for Ghana delegation at the YAWC-East Africa subregional congress held in Kenya in May 2022.

She is a member of Young Women Congress- YAWC

YAWC is endorsed by UN Women through its West and Central African Regional Office (WCARO) and is duly represented by top officials every year during the congress. 

The AU Commission’s Women and Gender Development Directorate (WGDD) also recognizes the congress as a potent tool for the total transformation of the continent of Africa and has been a major partner in harnessing the agenda for the congress.
